5th Grade   Room 23

Dear 5th Grade Parents,

September has come to a close.  As a class we are learning about each other and how to work well together.  We have done many team building activities, have met in a community circle and interviewed many of the students for a book to keep.  In addition,  Ms. Witherspoon, our school counselor, comes once a week and engages us in topics about how to be a good friend.  I need some support at home with the topic of getting along with others as we are having some teasing and name calling happen.  This is very hurtful to our classroom community.  Every student needs to feel safe when they come to school and I expect this to stop!

In math we are working hard learning our multiplication facts.  We are practicing memorizing our 2's, 3's, 4's, and 5's.  We are using these numbers in 2 and 3 digit times 1 digit.  Next we will tie this in with division and the two concepts are one.  Your student has made flash cards and I am quizzing each student to see which sets they know.  It is imperative that they know these well for 6th grade. Help me help them.

See you next month,

Mrs. Kuhl
