Family and Community Engagement
Dear Families,
Hopefully the year is off to a great start for you. Here at Humboldt we’re doing our part to ensure your child acquires the knowledge, skills and values to successfully carry him or her through life. Since learning also takes place outside the classroom, the involvement you have with your child before school, after school and on the weekend is equally important to their education. As each family is unique, family involvement looks different for everyone.
Maybe you…tell your child a story while you walk to school, read with him or her before bed, make it a routine for him or her to show you what she or he brought home that day, check that she or he has completed their homework each night or maybe you do something else that’s special to your child.
We understand that you’re busy and may not be able to make it to all the school happenings that you’d like to attend. We encourage you to do your best and make time when you can, maybe set a goal for yourself.
Your goal might be to…talk to your child’s teacher about class expectations, attend an adult workshop offered at Humboldt, schedule regular homework time for your student, pop in for Friday Coffee Chats in the Parent Room, or something else you’ve been wanting to do.
In addition to school events, Humboldt will be offering some classes that are for adults so we all can learn and show our students that education is important. If there’s something particular you’d like to know more about, such as healthy eating habits, child development, resume writing or anything else, please pass on your suggestions to me so we can create workshops that strike your interest.
Also, I can connect you with resources and support, such as school supplies, clothing, and energy and housing assistance.
