Kindergarten Rooms 40 & 17
Hello Kindergarten Families,
We are in the middle of our first math unit, Mathematical Thinking in Kindergarten. We are focusing on the following:
· Becoming familiar with a variety of mathematical materials and their attributes
· Developing and using strategies for counting
· Beginning to connect numerals and number names to the quantities they represent
· Introducing routines that will be revisited throughout the year, focusing on counting, and data collection
During our morning reading block each student participates in a Scott Foresman Reading group and a language group. Many students are also in small Early Reading Intervention groups. The Early Reading Intervention groups and the language groups are based on the current needs of the students. Our first unit of study is called, All Together Now. We are working on letter recognition, vocabulary development, high frequency words, and comprehension. Our comprehension skills include: character, setting, and sequence. Please ask your child about the stories he or she is hearing at school and apply the comprehension skills to the stories that you read each night at home.
