Safer Routes To Schools News………..

Let’s Begin the Year Walking and Rolling!

Get out those walking shoes and pump up your bike tires!  With the beginning of the new school year, now is the time for students and families to set healthy and fun habits about how you get to and from school.

There are many ways to establish active habits today.  Determine specific days each week or month that you will walk or roll to school. Make it a social event and coordinate your commute with neighbors or other families.  If getting to school car-free is not possible, try driving part way and walking the last 2 to 4 blocks.

Together, let’s join millions around the world in the International Walk + Bike to School Day on Wednesday, October 7th.  Register our school at www.walknbike.org.

Join Millions on Bike and Foot on October 7th

An event in which our entire school community should plan to participate is International Walk + Bike to School Day on Wednesday, October 7th.  Let’s join over 4 million students, parents and faculty around the world in actively getting to and from school!  By participating, we will help to enhance the health of children, improve the health of the community and promote neighborhood livability.  Register our school online at www.walknbike.org, and receive support coordinating the morning’s active commute. We look forward to celebrating active transportation as we walk and roll to school together.

For help registering or getting involved, contact Clay Veka at 503-823-4998 or clay.veka@trans.ci.portland.or.us.

Fill out a Safe Routes’ Surveys for your chance to win a bike

Keep an eye out for the Safe Routes to School survey being delivered to your home in mid-September. The Safe Routes’ survey collects information about your school transportation needs. By filling out the survey, you provide valuable information on how we create a safer school for children to walk/bike to and from School. In addition, all parents who complete and return a survey will be entered in our Safe Routes raffle. This year the prize is a bike and helmet valued at $400.00!
