Principal’s Corner
Greetings Humboldt Families,
It is hard to believe that it is already October! Time flies when you are having fun, and I want to thank you for contributing to our successful opening of school. Our enrollment is up, and we want to welcome new students and celebrate our growth.
This year, we will be focusing on writing in all of our classes. Last year, students in Portland Public Schools did not do well, as a whole, on the State Assessment in the area of writing. As a result, each school will have a focus on writing. I am asking for your support by encouraging your child to write at home. He or she can write thank you notes, letters, general notes, poems, short stories, or anything that will allow them to share their voice in print. Please feel free to ask your child’s teacher for suggestions of ways that you can support your child’s writing.
Thanks to all of the parents who have been coming out on Friday mornings for the Parent Chat. It’s been informative, and I have enjoyed connecting with all of you. It is also a great time for parents just to talk with other parents. So, if you are available on Friday mornings around 9:00, please plan on joining us in the Parent Room for great conversation and a chance to get questions answered.
Thanks so much for your support. Together we will make a difference for each student at Humboldt.
Sincerely,
Willie Poinsette
Parent-Teacher-Student Conference and Compact
Just a reminder, be sure you have scheduled a conference with your child’s teacher for November. This is your opportunity to establish that important partnership with your child’s teacher. An important component of our School-wide Title 1 School Improvement Plan is the Parent-Teacher-Student Compact. The Compact is an agreement between the three parties to work as partners to help the student succeed at Humboldt. We want every student to reach his/her highest academic and social potential and this is a written commitment of that fact.
The Humboldt Title 1 Program requires a signed compact from each family and teacher. The compact will be available for reading and signing during the Parent-Teacher Conferences, November 23rd-24th. If you wish to see the compact before the conference, see April in the office.
